Federal University of Lafia Establishes Aliko Dangote Sugarcane Research Centre

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has approved the establishment of the Aliko Dangote Sugarcane Research Centre, a cutting-edge research facility focused on sugarcane cultivation, processing, refining, and training.
The new research centre, approved during the council's 22nd Regular Meeting on March 19-20, 2025, aims to promote excellence in research and collaboration between FULafia and the Aliko Dangote Group.
According to a statement issued by the Registrar, Malam Nuradeen Abdu, the centre will foster a strategic partnership between the university and the Dangote Group, leveraging the group's expertise in sugarcane farming, established in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The Faculty of Agriculture and the Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development Studies (CARDS) at FULafia will drive the project, focusing on agricultural development.
This initiative is expected to enhance research capacity, promote innovation, and contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector in Nigeria.
