Nigerian billionaire and philanthropist, Femi Otedola, has donated N3.7 billion to support the construction of a new building for the Engineering Faculty at Augustine University, Ilara Epe. The announcement was made at the university’s 6th convocation ceremony, where Otedola, who serves as the institution’s Chancellor, reiterated his dedication to advancing education and transforming the university's engineering program into a world-class facility.

Speaking at the event, Otedola expressed satisfaction with the university's progress and outlined his aspirations for establishing Augustine University as a leading center of excellence in engineering studies. He revealed that the contract for the Phase 2 building is near completion, and construction is expected to be finalized within the next 12 months.

“I am pleased to announce the donation of the Phase 2 building for the Engineering Faculty at a cost of N3.7 billion,” said Otedola. “By God’s grace, I hope to be with you this time next year to inaugurate the completed building.”

This latest contribution builds on Otedola’s previous support for the institution, including funding for the completion of Phase 1 of the Engineering Faculty. Additionally, he pledged N140 million for furnishing the completed building and N110 million for installing street lights across the campus and acquiring a new standby generator.

The expansion is designed to accommodate the university's growing student population and provide cutting-edge facilities for engineering education. Otedola emphasized the importance of fostering intellectual and moral excellence, aligning with Augustine University's mission of producing graduates who are not only skilled but also uphold integrity and service to society.

This donation follows Otedola’s 2023 initiative, where he provided N1 million scholarships to each of the 750 students at Augustine University, totaling N750 million. The scholarship covers both new and returning students for the 2023/2024 academic session, ensuring financial support for about 500 returning students and 250 first-year students.
