From "Troublemaker" to Tech Millionaire: Ebubechukwu Onyer Defies Odds at FUTO

The inspiring story of Ebubechukwu Onyer, a young man who navigated profound financial hardship and societal labels to achieve remarkable success, is making waves across the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) community.

Once labelled a "troublemaker" and "black sheep," the Port Harcourt-born Onyer turned adversity into a launchpad for a destiny-driven journey.

In 2018, Ebubechukwu gained admission to FUTO but tragically lost the opportunity because his family could not afford the ₦40,500 registration fee. Facing heartbreak and a harsh reality check, he engaged in numerous roadside and cleaning jobs, teaching, and SIM registration—anything legal to survive.

He gained admission again in 2019, arriving at school with minimal belongings. Three months later, his funds dried up, and "hunger became normal."

The combined ASUU strike and COVID-19 pandemic provided an unexpected reprieve. During this break, Ebubechukwu dedicated himself to learning high-demand skills. He ventured into crypto trading and other tech opportunities, eventually making his first ₦1,000,000 and navigating the volatile market landscape to earn more.

He returned to FUTO a transformed individual, balancing his studies with his burgeoning financial success.

Ebubechukwu recently graduated with a B.Tech in Surveying & Geoinformatics (Second Class Upper). His FUTO journey culminated in numerous achievements:
