FUGA Award-Winning Chemistry Graduate Visits VC, Attributes Global Feat to University’s Support
The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gashua, FUGA, Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, has received an award-winning alumnus, Usman Umar Dagona, during a courtesy visit to express appreciation for the institution’s role in his international success.
Dagona, a 2025 graduate of the Department of Chemistry, recently earned an Award of Excellence from the International Chemistry Competition, IChC, after emerging among the Top Four Most Outstanding Chemistry Ambassadors worldwide. He is also the first and only Nigerian to serve as an official ambassador of the competition, representing over 190 participating countries.
During the visit, Dagona thanked the Vice-Chancellor, staff, and the Department of Chemistry for providing academic support, mentorship, and a conducive learning environment that enabled him to excel globally. He pledged to continue representing the university with distinction on the international stage.

In his remarks, Prof. Geidam congratulated the alumnus, describing the achievement as a source of pride for FUGA and Nigeria at large. He said the feat reflects the university’s commitment to producing graduates who can compete and excel internationally.
The Vice-Chancellor urged Dagona to sustain his momentum through impactful research and mentorship of younger scholars. He also called on current students to emulate Dagona’s dedication, perseverance, and pursuit of academic excellence.
The visit ended with the presentation of the Award of Excellence to the Vice-Chancellor for inspection, followed by commemorative photographs. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to promoting academic excellence and projecting the positive image of Federal University Gashua globally.
