FUL Vice-Chancellor Elected Fellow of Nigerian Academy of Letters

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Prof. Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has been elected a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL), the highest honour conferred by Nigeria's premier academy for the humanities.

According to a statement issued by the University, Prof. Ibileye's election followed a rigorous screening and selection process conducted by the Academy's Screening Committee in recognition of his outstanding contributions to scholarship, research, academic leadership, and the advancement of the humanities in Nigeria.

The formal investiture will take place during the Nigerian Academy of Letters' 2026 Convocation on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the University of Lagos, where he will be officially admitted into the Academy's College of Fellows.

The Fellowship of the Nigerian Academy of Letters is regarded as the highest academic distinction in the humanities in Nigeria. It is reserved for distinguished scholars whose research achievements, intellectual contributions, and sustained impact have significantly advanced knowledge and contributed to national development.

An internationally recognised scholar in Linguistics and Pragmatics, Prof. Ibileye has built a strong academic reputation through his extensive research, mentorship of scholars, and leadership in higher education.

Since assuming office as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, he has spearheaded reforms aimed at strengthening teaching, research, innovation, institutional development, and the University's global academic visibility.

The University described the honour as a significant recognition of Prof. Ibileye's decades of academic excellence and noted that the achievement also reflects the growing reputation of the Federal University Lokoja as a centre of scholarly excellence and research.
