FUTA Celebrates Excellence, Honors Outstanding Staff at Combined Convocation

Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), celebrated excellence and commitment on Monday, November 25, 2024, during an award ceremony held as part of the ongoing 34th and 35th combined convocation events. The colorful occasion at the Afen Adebayo Multipurpose Hall saw university staff recognized for their exceptional contributions, with the university’s leadership, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji, joining in the celebrations.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor Sunday Oluyamo, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Taiwo Amos, commended the awardees for their dedication. "Excellence and productivity are not just metrics but values that inspire innovation and collaboration," he stated. He urged everyone to continue striving for greatness and applauded the Vice-Chancellor and management for sustaining the awards tradition.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Oladiji expressed gratitude to staff and students for their collective efforts in advancing FUTA’s reputation. "Whatever FUTA is today is because of all of us. While we have achieved a lot, there is room to do more. Management is committed to reviewing and expanding these awards in future editions," she said.

The awards spanned various categories, including:

  • Best Researcher of the Year: Dr. Kolade Owolabi (Mathematics)
  • Best Lecturer of the Year: Prof. Kolade Koriko (Mathematics)
  • Best Dean of the Year: Prof. Oluayo Bello-Olusoji (SPGS)
  • Best Department of the Year: Urban and Regional Planning (URP)
  • Meritorious Service Award: Mr. Oladokun Oluyede (DVC Academic’s Office)

Additional recognitions included Long Service Awards, Vice-Chancellor Special Recognition Awards, Students Leadership Awards, and Sports Awards.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Professor Francis Igbasan, Vice-Chancellor of McPherson University and recipient of a Long Service Award, expressed gratitude, noting that the recognition would inspire them to greater contributions.

The event underscored FUTA's commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and celebrating the achievements of its staff, reaffirming its position as a leading institution in Nigeria.
