Gov. Buni Bolsters Yobe Healthcare with Automatic Employment for 416 Nursing Graduates

The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, has approved the automatic recruitment of 416 graduates from the Shehu Sule College of Nursing Sciences, Damaturu.

The announcement was made during the college’s graduation ceremony on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, where the Governor was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana.

Governor Buni highlighted that this move is part of a broader strategy that has seen over 3,500 healthcare workers employed during his administration to ensure functional and accessible medical services across the state.

The Governor also noted the state’s investment in the Biomedical Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) at Yobe State University, designed to train the next generation of scientists. This commitment to excellence recently earned Yobe State a $1.2 million prize for emerging as the best-performing state in primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria, according to an independent survey by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

The outgoing Provost, Hajiya Hadiza Sabo, revealed that between 2019 and 2026, the college has produced 1,485 graduates, all of whom have been absorbed into the state’s workforce.

The ceremony also featured the commissioning of new projects and the launch of a compendium magazine documenting the administration's achievements, with the state government and private donors contributing over ₦11 million to the launch.
