Great Ife Students' Union Electoral Commission Lifts Campaign Ban Ahead of 2024/2025 Elections

The Great Ife Students' Union Independent Electoral Commission (SUIEC) has officially lifted the ban on campaign activities for the 2024/2025 Students' Union Elections, clearing the way for aspirants to begin campaigns with immediate effect.

In an official announcement, the Commission authorised all students who have indicated interest or are willing to contest elective positions in the forthcoming Students' Union elections to commence their campaign activities.

The Commission, however, urged all aspirants to conduct their campaigns responsibly and in strict compliance with the Electoral Guidelines. It stressed that campaigns must remain issue-based, peaceful and respectful of fellow contestants as well as members of the university community.

According to the Commission, the following actions are prohibited and will attract appropriate sanctions:

• Violence
• Intimidation
• Blackmail
• Defamation
• Hate speech
• Destruction of campaign materials
• Any conduct capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process

The Commission encouraged all aspirants to engage students with ideas, competence and vision while upholding the values of civility and sportsmanship that define the Great Ife spirit.

It also called on members of the student community to actively participate in the electoral process to ensure the emergence of leaders who will advance the interests of the Students' Union.

The Commission wished all aspirants a productive and successful campaign season.
