IAUE Registrar Holds Meeting with Directors and Deputy Registrars

Worried by poor work ethics among the newly recruited 400 non-teaching staff of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, the Registrar of the University, Dr. Chinonye Abraham Ajie, has held a meeting with Directors and Deputy Registrars on enforcement of discipline and attitudinal change.

The meeting held on Friday, 16th October 2026 at the conference room of the Institute of Distance Learning.

The Registrar cautioned the upper cadre of the Registry on the need to show exemplary conduct for the new staff to emulate. He noted that no report on unethical behaviour had come to his table and questioned whether senior non-teaching staff were not present to observe lapses.

He explained that most of the new staff do not report to work regularly or resume at will, and wondered why heads of units had not submitted reports or taken disciplinary measures.

He warned that they have a duty to protect the image of the University and ensure that new staff do not engage in acts capable of tarnishing it.

Dr. Ajie added that the Rivers State Government is paying huge salaries for services rendered, stressing that those found unserious or involved in misconduct would be shown the way out.

He disclosed plans for an in-house training programme for the new staff to be organised by Heads of Units, and enjoined Directors to work out modalities before December 2026.

While noting that the Registry is the engine room of the University, he emphasised that Registry staff cannot afford to be found wanting at their duty posts.

He urged them to be their brothers' keepers and guard against administrative lapses in their various units. He also announced that a Registry Day would be organised to celebrate and showcase Registry staff.

In their contributions, Director of Exams and Records, Barrister T. T. Minaiyo, thanked the Registrar and enjoined colleagues to act in a manner that reflects their titles. Director, Senate, Dr. Obi Wichendu, appreciated the Registrar's role during the promotion exercise and supported on-the-job training.

Director, Council Matters, Mr. Wilson Ibokama, called for establishment of a Protocol Unit, formerly known as Passage Unit, to handle visitors' accommodation, feeding and transport needs, with a Director to head it. Director, Administration, Academic Planning Unit, Dr. (Mrs) Chima Cookey, supported the idea of Registry Day.

Director, Establishment, Dr. (Mrs) Chioma Emejuru, appealed for assignment of vehicles to Directors to ease their duties.
