In a decisive move to expedite the rescue of 20 kidnapped medical students, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has dispatched additional detectives to Benue State. The students, from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were abducted while traveling to Enugu for the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students’ annual convention.
The abduction occurred along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu road on Thursday evening, 15th of August. In response, the IGP has ordered the deployment of tactical operatives and assets, including helicopters, drones, and tactical vehicles, to ensure the swift rescue of the students.
Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi emphasized the need for public support and praised citizens who have been discreetly providing vital information to the police. He urged those sharing sensitive details on social media to refrain from doing so to avoid disrupting ongoing operations.
The IGP reiterated his commitment to rescuing the students unharmed and called for understanding and support from the public as additional trained detectives arrive in Benue.
