IMAP ASUP Backs NEC's 15-Day Ultimatum, Urges FG to Implement Agreement
IMAP ASUP supports NEC's 15-day ultimatum, urging the government to implement the agreed terms to avoid industrial unrest.
The Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic (IMAP), Lafia chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), has thrown its weight behind the 15-day ultimatum issued by its National Executive Committee (NEC) following a recent meeting in Abuja.
In a communique signed by Dr. Illah Obadiah, the IMAP ASUP chapter chairman, the union reiterated its support for the NEC's demand for immediate government action on key issues affecting polytechnic education and staff welfare.
The communique outlined several demands, including the immediate commencement of the review of the suspended Scheme of Service (SOS), which was agreed upon in the tripartite meeting held on July 19, 2024 ¹. The union also called for the review and reversal of decisions that contravene the Federal Polytechnic Act of 2019. Among other key demands was the immediate implementation of the approved 25/35% salary review for all public polytechnics, including the release of accrued arrears, and the release of the Reviewed Conditions of Service.
Additionally, the union urged the government to stop any policies that undermine the authority of polytechnic Academic Boards, especially in student admissions, as well as to release the second tranche of the NEEDS Assessment Intervention for public polytechnics. The communique concluded by expressing hope that the 15-day ultimatum would prompt positive action from the government to avoid disruption of industrial harmony within the sector.
