Kano State Polytechnic Becomes Nigeria’s First State Poly Selected for Prestigious Dublin Accord Accreditation

Kano State Polytechnic (KSP) has achieved a historic milestone in its quest for global academic standards. On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the institution hosted an international accreditation team to assess its National Diploma (ND) programs in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering under the Dublin Accord framework.

The assessment, rooted in Outcome-Based Education (OBE) standards, is a joint initiative by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). This exercise aims to align Nigerian engineering technician qualifications with the global benchmarks established by the International Engineering Alliance (IEA).

During the opening session, the Team Leader and Director of the Engineering Accreditation Committee of COREN, Engr. Prof. Baba J. El-Yakub, commended the institution, noting that Kano State Polytechnic is the first and only state-owned polytechnic in Nigeria selected for this international assessment.

Representing the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA, the Director of Academic Planning, Engr. Dr. Comrade Ibrahim Usman Aikawa, expressed the management's commitment to the process. He emphasized that the selection of KSP is a testament to the institution’s rigorous academic reforms and its goal of producing globally competitive technicians.

The Governing Council Chairman, Engr. Alhaji Buba Galadima, through the management, assured the visiting team of full cooperation. This accreditation marks a transformative step for Kano State Polytechnic, positioning it as a premier destination for engineering education in Sub-Saharan Africa.
