Dr. Shakirat Mustapha Aminu, a distinguished academic from the Department of Geology and Mineral Science at Kwara State University (KWASU), has achieved a double milestone following the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) national elections and annual conference.

Dr. Aminu was elected as the Financial Secretary of the NMGS during the 262nd Council meeting held at Rosmohr Gold Hotel and Suites in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on March 21, 2026. Her election to the national executive council took place just ahead of the society's 61st Annual International Conference and Exhibition.

Furthering her streak of achievements, Dr. Aminu was presented with the NMGS President’s Award for Young Miner/Geoscientist 2026 during the society's gala and award night. This prestigious accolade recognises young professionals under 40 who have demonstrated exceptional impact and innovation in the fields of mining engineering and geology.
