The Lagos State University (LASU) has commenced the distribution of newly produced Smart Identification Cards to full-time undergraduate students admitted during the 2024/2025 academic session, following the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM.
The initiative forms part of the university’s broader digital transformation drive aimed at improving service delivery, strengthening campus security, and enhancing students’ access to academic and financial services through technology-enabled systems.
According to the university management, the newly introduced Smart ID Card is designed to serve dual functions as both an official means of identification and a payment card, thereby simplifying multiple student-related transactions within and outside the university environment.
The card will provide students with seamless access to academic and administrative services while also functioning as a financial transaction tool usable on Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals, and online payment platforms.
LASU further explained that the Smart ID Card would support access control and authentication processes across university premises, strengthening institutional security architecture and reducing the risks associated with impersonation and identity-related fraud.

Management noted that the digitized card system also offers improved protection of students’ personal data and aligns with the university’s ongoing commitment to deploying technology-driven solutions for operational efficiency and student convenience.
Students admitted in the 2024/2025 academic session have therefore been directed to visit their respective faculties and schools for the collection of the cards.
For enquiries and technical support regarding the Smart ID Card, students were advised to contact the university through mailsupport@lasu.edu.ng or director.ict@lasu.edu.ng.
The development represents another step in LASU’s expanding digital modernization agenda under the current administration, as the institution continues to integrate smart systems into its academic and administrative operations.
