LASU Partners with Africa Academy for Counter-Fraud and Anti-Corruption Studies (AACAS) to Combat Fraud and Corruption

LASU, through its Centre for Financial Forensic Investigation and Analytics (CFFIA), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Africa Academy for Counter-Fraud and Anti-Corruption Studies (AACAS).

Lagos State University (LASU), through its Centre for Financial Forensic Investigation and Analytics (CFFIA), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Africa Academy for Counter-Fraud and Anti-Corruption Studies (AACAS). The partnership aims to enhance professional education in financial forensics and anti-corruption studies.

The MoU signing ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Ojo Campus, Lagos.

In her address, LASU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, described the agreement as a milestone in advancing anti-corruption education, research, and professional development in Africa and beyond. She emphasized that the partnership would develop specialized postgraduate programs to equip professionals with the skills needed to combat fraud and corruption effectively.

“This collaboration opens doors to innovative solutions and new opportunities that will benefit the communities we serve,” she said.

Dr. Rabiu Olowo, Chairman of AACAS and former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, lauded LASU for establishing the CFFIA, noting it is the first of its kind in Nigerian tertiary institutions. He pledged AACAS's commitment to bringing practical expertise and a network of over 800 professionals into the collaboration.

“This is a significant milestone for us as it marks our first partnership with a Nigerian university,” Dr. Olowo added.

The Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating both parties for their dedication to the initiative.

The event was attended by senior university officials, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Olufunso Omobitan; Bursar, Mr. Said Babatunde Olayinka; University Librarian, Dr. Omawumi Makinde; Director of CFFIA, Prof. James Kehinde; and representatives from AACAS.

This partnership reinforces LASU’s commitment to fostering innovative solutions in tackling corruption and financial crimes across Africa.
