MAAUN Founder Donates Brand-New Hyundai SUV to NWUK Vice Chancellor in Recognition of Contributions to Education

The Founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger, MAAUN, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, on Friday, 28th August 2026, led a high-powered delegation on a special visit to Northwest University Kano, NWUK, where he presented a brand-new Hyundai SUV to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero.

The vehicle, which was personally presented to Professor Bayero, is for her personal use and is not an official University vehicle.

The gesture was in recognition of her exceptional commitment, dedication and contributions to the development of education, particularly during her time at MAAUN.

Speaking during the presentation, Professor Gwarzo described Professor Bayero as a “Practical Professor”, stressing that she is a scholar who puts knowledge, experience and intellectual capacity into practical action.

“Professor Amina is a Practical Professor. She is practising her profession in a practical way. During her stay at MAAUN, she changed the narrative of the University and brought a lot of positive changes. That is why I call her a Practical Professor,” Professor Gwarzo stated.

He noted that her intellectual capacity, hard work and commitment contributed significantly to the progress recorded at MAAUN, adding that he was confident that the same qualities were already producing visible results at Northwest University Kano since her assumption of office as Vice Chancellor.

Professor Gwarzo explained that the donation of the Hyundai SUV was a token of appreciation for the Vice Chancellor’s commitment and dedication to the advancement of MAAUN, Northwest University Kano and education in general.

He emphasised that the relationship between MAAUN and Northwest University Kano remains a special one and expressed his continued readiness to support initiatives that will promote academic excellence, human capital development and educational advancement.

In another commitment during the visit, Professor Gwarzo pledged to establish a Development Centre for Northwest University Kano. According to him, the Centre will serve as a strategic platform through which the University can identify, source and access grants and other development opportunities to support the growth and advancement of the institution.

He noted that the Centre could play a vital role in mobilising resources for the development of infrastructure, academic programmes, research, innovation, human capital development and other areas requiring additional support.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, expressed profound appreciation for the gesture, describing the visit and the donation as deeply touching and memorable.

She described Professor Gwarzo as an “Uncommon Philanthropist” whose commitment to the development of education and entrepreneurship has continued to impact institutions and individuals positively. She commended him for his consistent support to Northwest University Kano, noting that his contributions to the University had been enormous.

The Vice Chancellor also briefed the visiting delegation on some of the achievements recorded by her administration within the relatively short period since assuming office, highlighting ongoing initiatives aimed at improving teaching, learning, research, infrastructure, innovation and the overall development of the University.

The latest donation marks the third vehicle donation made by Professor Gwarzo to Northwest University Kano. The first was a luxurious bus donated to support the University’s transportation needs, while a brand-new Toyota Hilux was recently donated to the Office of the Vice Chancellor.

In another development during the visit, the Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Northwest University Kano, Professor Abdulmumin Yunusa, disclosed that the Department of Anatomy of the University had secured a brand-new Anatomage Table, a modern digital anatomy technology that will enhance the teaching and learning of human anatomy.

He pledged that the facility would also be made available for the training of medical students from MAAUN, particularly in the study of anatomy and virtual cadaver-based learning.

Principal Officers of Northwest University Kano present at the occasion expressed appreciation for Professor Gwarzo’s generous gesture and congratulated Professor Bayero on the recognition.

The visit concluded on a celebratory note, further cementing the bond between MAAUN and Northwest University Kano and reinforcing Professor Gwarzo’s reputation as a committed supporter of education, entrepreneurship and institutional development.
