Meet Abdulfatah Suleiman, ABU First-Class Economics Trailblazer

The academic community is celebrating the remarkable achievement of Abdulfatah Suleiman, who has graduated with First Class Honours in Economics from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

Ranking among the top three students in both the Department of Economics and the Faculty of Social Sciences for the 2024 academic session, Suleiman concluded his undergraduate studies with an outstanding Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.68 out of 5.00.

Suleiman’s journey to the peak of academic excellence began with a modest goal. During a study group session in his freshman year, he aimed for a 4.0 GP. However, after recording a 4.65 in his first set of results, his perspective shifted.

"That moment changed everything," Suleiman reflected. "It became clear that excellence was possible. I made a quiet decision then: I want to graduate with a First Class."

His academic record is a testament to disciplined focus, highlighted by achieving a perfect 5.00 GPA in both semesters of his 200-level year. However, the path was not without obstacles. In his 300-level first semester, Suleiman faced a dip, recording a 4.06 GP—the lowest of his university career.

Rather than succumbing to the fear of falling short, he used the setback as a catalyst for a "reset." He bounced back immediately in the following semester with another perfect 5.00 GPA, effectively securing his First-Class standing.

Suleiman’s story is being hailed as an inspiration for undergraduates across the country, demonstrating that while setbacks are inevitable, resilience and a clear vision are the keys to finishing strong. Today, he stands as a proud "Naturally Ahead" alumnus of ABU, ready to contribute to the global economic landscape.
