NAPRI and ABU Recommend Establishment of Outreach Station in Mahuta to Katsina State Government
The National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) have recommended the establishment of an outreach station in Mahuta, Katsina State, to enhance livestock farming and reduce conflicts between farmers and herders.

The National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) has officially presented a recommendation letter to the Katsina State Government for the establishment of an outreach station in Mahuta, Daneji District, Kafur Local Government Area.
The recommendation follows a request by the Daneji District Vocational Training and All Livestock Value Chain Development Committee to NAPRI’s Management. The committee urged NAPRI to communicate to the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, to provide an enabling environment and resources for the proposed outreach station.
According to the request, the establishment of the outreach station will advance NAPRI’s mandate, promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, and support livestock development. The station is expected to facilitate the creation of pastures, milk collection centers, poultry, sheep and goat farms, and cattle fattening programs, among other initiatives.
Presenting the letter on behalf of NAPRI Management, Dr. Yunusa Muhammad Isiyaku, Assistant Director of Linkages and Extension, emphasized the importance of Mahuta due to its high concentration of livestock farmers. He noted that cattle rustling has been a persistent challenge in Katsina State, making modern animal husbandry training essential to reducing livestock mortality and improving farmers' incomes.
Dr. Isiyaku highlighted that the outreach station would enhance agricultural productivity by providing training and extension services while aligning with government policies on agriculture and livestock development. He expressed appreciation to the Katsina State Government for their warm reception and assured them of NAPRI’s full support.
Receiving the letter on behalf of the state government, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Honourable AbdulKadir Mamman Nasir, lauded NAPRI, Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Kabiru Bala, and the ABU Management for their commitment to establishing the outreach station. Honourable Nasir emphasized the long-standing relationship between ABU and Katsina State, acknowledging the university's contributions to livestock production and agricultural research.
He further commended the Daneji District for initiating the project, describing it as a forward-thinking step. Honourable Nasir noted that animal production is a key focus of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, as demonstrated by the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock. He assured the Daneji Community of the state government’s full support in bringing the project to fruition.
The Chief of Staff also appreciated the contributions of Danejin Katsina, District Head of Mahuta, Alhaji Bello AbdulKadir Yammama, Honourable Shuaibu Wakili, Member representing Kafur Local Government at the Katsina State House of Assembly, and Mansur Ibrahim Kagara for their proactive role in facilitating community engagement with NAPRI.
The letter presentation was witnessed by a delegation from NAPRI and senior officials from the Katsina State Government House.
