Ahmadu Bello University Participates in Global Quality Assurance Workshop in Ghana
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, participated in a three-day workshop on Quality Assurance in Higher and Tertiary Education Management in Accra, Ghana, organized by the Global Quality Assurance Association (GQAA).

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, recently participated in a three-day training workshop on "Quality Assurance in Higher and Tertiary Education Management, Blended Teaching, Learning, and Research" held in Accra, Ghana. The workshop, organized by the Global Quality Assurance Association (GQAA), aimed to enhance quality-driven culture within academic institutions.
The facilitator, Dr. Violet Makuku, emphasized that quality assurance is a collective responsibility, stating, "Quality assurance starts with you and me." She guided participants through key strategies for integrating quality assurance into institutional management, ensuring total quality management for transformation.
ABU's participation was facilitated by the Africa Centre of Excellence on New Pedagogies in Engineering Education (ACENPEE) and the Africa Centre of Excellence for Neglected Tropical Diseases and Forensic Biotechnology (ACENTDFB). The university's delegation included Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Prof. Raymond B. Bako, and Bursar Malam Mohammed Bello Aminu Gurin.
During the workshop, discussions covered leadership and management, stakeholder engagement, research integrity, and the role of ICT and artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Dr. Makuku stressed the importance of digitalization and AI adoption for efficient educational leadership and assessment methodologies.
A key highlight was the recognition of Ahmadu Bello University’s commitment to quality assurance. Prof. Kabiru Bala was awarded a trophy for selecting personnel from diverse university sections to attend the training. Another trophy was presented to ABU’s Ag. Chief Internal Auditor, Mrs. Fatima Ibrahim, for her active participation throughout the event.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raymond B. Bako, expressed gratitude to the facilitator, describing the workshop as a hands-on experience that will enhance the university’s quality assurance processes. He emphasized the significance of continuous improvement and collaborative learning in fostering academic excellence.
The event reinforced ABU’s dedication to strengthening quality assurance mechanisms, ensuring its academic and research programs align with global best practices.
