NASU Gets Its Branch in University of Africa, Toru-orua (UAT)

The delegation which was led by Engr. Nelson Ebimie Nengiyefa the Bayelsa State Chapter Chairman of NASU in company of other executive members, were received by the Acting Vice-Chancellor in company of the University Registrar Dr. Akpoebi Adesi and the Acting Bursar, Dr. Umbe Ayekurobotaregha at his office.
The NASU team was on a mission to inform the Management of the University that its branch in UAT has been fully established adding that the visit was to formally introduce the new executives to the Vice-Chancellor while also soliciting that the Management give the young body all necessary support for it to thrive.
The AVC, in his remark, welcomed the gesture of the NASU to set up a chapter in UAT. He urged the Union to take sensitization seriously to canvass for more membership including non-teaching senior members of staff; NASU would be a worthwhile union to belong to. He congratulated the junior members of staff for the initiative to ensure NASU is formed in UAT on a sound footing. He further added that the need to belong to a professional union cannot be overemphasized saying that with the mentorship of the state chairman, UAT chapter would run smoothly.
The AVC further ceased the opportunity to set the records strait that UAT is a Bayelsa State owned University as it is fully funded by the Bayelsa State Government. He further added that the admission window for the 2023/2024 academic session is still open for persons who took jamb last year.
The UAT branch executives were officially received upon presentation by the state chairman of NASU to the AVC who in turn congratulated them while also urging them to put in their best to lead the associated.
The Registrar, also lending a voice of advice, appreciated the comrades for their visit. He said unions have helped the educational system immensely and as such management encourages responsible unionism, and urged the unionist to always adopt logical ways of doing things.
The Acting Bursar also responding informed that so far management has encouraged the setting up of NASU and other unions in the university to ensure that no member of staff would be shortchanged. He also advised the unionist to carry out their activities in a lawful and cordial manner.

Giving the vote of thanks on behalf of the NASU Executives, Comrade Geku Ebiwari, appreciated the management of the University of Africa, for the warm welcome they received upon arrival at the University.
The newly appointed executives of the University of Africa are Comrade Joseph Ebrudu Chairman; Comrade Oyobolo Akpozuogha Fresh, Secretary; Ms Fiyebo Tamarabrakemi, Treasurer; while Comrade Kent Okubonanabo, Comrade Awaka George, Comrade Oversea, Comrade Francisca Moroyei and Comrade Elizabeth are Ex-official members.
