National ASUU Delegation Visits Kashim Ibrahim University to Drive NUPEMCO Enrollment
A delegation from the Academic Staff Union of Universities National Body (ASUU) paid a courtesy visit to the management of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU) as part of its national assignment.
Leading the delegation, Comrade Abiodun Ogunyemi explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between ASUU and the university community while promoting the objectives of the union. He noted that ASUU remains committed to ensuring the welfare of its members and advocating for the overall development of Nigerian universities.
Speaking during the visit, Comrade Ogunyemi highlighted the importance of the Nigeria University Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO). He recalled that negotiations initiated between 2006 and 2009 led to the establishment of NUPEMCO, which was designed to provide a sustainable pension management system for university workers.
He appealed to the university management to support and encourage staff participation in NUPEMCO, stressing that the scheme would become more sustainable and beneficial with increased enrollment by universities and their employees.

Comrade Ogunyemi further stated that, with the support of ASUU members, university administrators, and Vice-Chancellors across the country, NUPEMCO would continue to grow and achieve its objectives.
He added that the organization had already commenced investments and assigned responsibilities to members to ensure its success and contribute to the advancement of the union.
Responding on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Shuibu Garba Ngulde, welcomed the ASUU delegation and commended the union for its commitment to the welfare of university staff.
Professor Ngulde noted that when the present university administration came on board, the institution had no ASUU branch, but efforts were subsequently made to establish one.
He assured the delegation that the university management, under the leadership of the hardworking Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babagana Gutti, would continue to support initiatives that promote the welfare of staff.
He further pledged that once the necessary financial backing and awareness mechanisms are in place, the university management would mobilize staff, sensitize them on the benefits of NUPEMCO, and encourage them to enroll in the scheme without delay.
