NELFUND to Disburse Loans to Over 100,000 Students Starting Next Week

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that more than 100,000 tertiary institution students who successfully applied for the Federal Government’s loan scheme will begin receiving credit alerts starting next week as they commence new academic sessions. The revelations from Dr. Sawyerr came shortly after President Bola Tinubu formally launched NELFUND at the State House in Abuja.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that more than 100,000 tertiary institution students who successfully applied for the Federal Government’s loan scheme will begin receiving credit alerts starting next week as they commence new academic sessions.

In an interview, NELFUND Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, disclosed, “The people who are going to first receive alerts as early as next week are the people who are about to start a new session in the institution they are in.” He went on to explain that the remaining successful applicants will receive their credit alerts once the academic sessions in their respective institutions begin.

Sawyerr noted that out of the 170,000 applicants from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education who now have accounts with NELFUND, 110,000 have completed the loan application process successfully. He emphasized the importance of further verification to confirm the eligibility of these applicants before disbursing the loans, but mentioned that over 110,000 students are likely to start receiving funds from next week.

“About 110,000 students have successfully applied. They’ve put in their applications and verified as bona fide and eligible applicants. However, we’ll continue further verification to ensure they are well-qualified to receive these loans. Over 110,000 students are likely to begin receiving disbursements from next week.”
