Sham'unu Ishaq, a first-class graduate from Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University in Katsina, has turned to selling sachet water on the streets to make ends meet. Despite graduating with honors in Biology Education on July 5, 2023, Ishaq has struggled to secure employment, forcing him into the challenging life of a street hawker.

With a degree certificate in hand, Ishaq describes how the income from hawking sachet water barely covers his daily expenses. “The money I make is only enough to eat. I can’t save anything,” he explained, detailing his struggle for survival in Katsina, where opportunities for young graduates like him are scarce.

Calling on Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda for assistance, Ishaq expressed his need for a sustainable livelihood. “As he can see, I graduated from university with no job, and poverty is even trying to kill me,” he said, underscoring the responsibilities he shoulders with no stable income. Despite the challenges, Ishaq remains hopeful and open to any form of employment.

His appeal extended beyond the state, reaching out to fellow Nigerians across all regions. “I need help, not necessarily from the state government alone but from all Nigerians, be it south, east, north, or west. I just need help,” he stated, emphasizing his readiness to work in any field.
