NITP Honours FUL VC, Commends University’s Dedication to Urban Development
The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) has presented an Award of Appreciation to Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), in recognition of his contributions to urban and regional planning education and sustainable development on campus.

Tpl Dr. Chime A. Ogbonna, representing the National President of NITP, lauded Professor Akinwumi as “a true friend of the Institute,” noting FUL’s role as a reliable partner in advancing urban planning ideals nationwide. The delegation, which included Tpl Dr. Senator Endurance Okosun, commended FUL’s proactive initiatives, including the establishment of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the strategic appointment of a Town Planner as Director of Physical Planning—moves that have strengthened campus development efforts.
The Institute also highlighted the significant progress on FUL’s Campus Master Plan, describing it as evidence of the University’s vision for sustainable growth and infrastructural transformation. It reaffirmed its commitment to professional excellence, ethical standards, and policies addressing Nigeria’s urbanisation challenges.

The Chairman of NITP’s Kogi State Chapter expressed gratitude for FUL’s partnership, stating: “Urban and Regional Planning will not be an orphan department here. We will continue to support and partner with the University to ensure continuous growth.”
In response, Professor Akinwumi thanked NITP for the recognition and reaffirmed FUL’s commitment to advancing urban planning education, sustainable campus development, and meaningful collaboration with professional bodies.
