Nnamdi Azikiwe University has appointed Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah MNIPR, a seasoned journalist, public relations strategist, and civil society leader, as its new spokesperson, tasking him with leading the institution’s public communication and stakeholder engagement architecture.

Attah, who until his appointment served as Chief Correspondent of The Sun Newspaper covering the five South-East states, brings nearly two decades of experience in journalism, media relations, investigative reporting, and strategic communication.

In his new role, he is expected to provide leadership in public relations management, strengthen media engagement, and coordinate institutional communication across internal and external stakeholders. His mandate includes translating university policies, programmes, and achievements into clear and accessible narratives that enhance public understanding, trust, and institutional visibility.

He has been widely recognised for his consistent coverage and projection of the university’s activities over the past 16 years, a track record that positions him as both an insider in institutional reporting and a practitioner of strategic communication.

An alumnus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, where he earned a degree in Political Science, Attah also holds a Master of Science in the same discipline from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. He was inducted as an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in 2018 and elevated to full membership in 2024 after completing the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development programme.

Over the years, he has built a multi-sector professional footprint spanning journalism, public relations, civil society advocacy, and human rights work. He has reported across education, politics, economy, culture, business, entertainment, and public health, earning recognition for ethical and impactful journalism.

His professional excellence has been acknowledged through multiple awards, including the 2025 Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Prize for Ethical Reporting by the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council, the Rukyatu Danjuma Prize for Public Health Reporting at the 2025 Nigerian Media Merit Award, and Best Correspondent of the Year from the NUJ Correspondents Chapel, Anambra State.

Attah is also actively engaged in several professional and civic organisations. He is a member of the Nigerian Investigative Journalists Network, the Nigerian Union of Journalists Correspondents Chapel, and serves on the Human Research Ethics Committee within Nnamdi Azikiwe University governance structures. He is also Chairman of the Catholic Media Practitioners of Nigeria, Onitsha Archdiocese, and holds editorial responsibilities with Youth Advisor Magazine and Pentascope Magazine.

His leadership portfolio extends into civil society and human rights advocacy, where he has served as Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organisation, South-East Zone, and Anambra State chapter, as well as a member of its zonal management committee since 2009. He has also participated as a domestic election observer under the National Democratic Institute and Committee for the Defence of Human Rights across multiple election cycles.

Attah has also held several advisory and patronage roles in religious and community-based organisations, reflecting a long-standing engagement in civic, faith-based, and developmental initiatives.

He is widely regarded as a strong advocate of strategic communication as a tool for institutional transformation. In his view, Nnamdi Azikiwe University has the capacity to strengthen its national and global reputation through deliberate storytelling, structured public relations, and consistent narrative alignment with institutional achievements and academic excellence.
