NSUK: Security Operatives Fire Teargas to Disperse Protesting Students Over SUG Elections
Security operatives used teargas to break up a protest at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, where students contested alleged irregularities in the SUG election results.
Security operatives deployed at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) fired teargas on Thursday to disperse protesting students who demonstrated over alleged irregularities in the Students Union Government (SUG) elections held on Wednesday.
The protests erupted following claims that the election was rigged, prompting some students to gather at the university’s main campus. The demonstrators, carrying placards with various demands, marched to the Senate building, insisting that Comrade Babangida Osome, popularly known as "Osimhen," had won the presidential race. They called on the university management, led by Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, to intervene and declare Osome the winner.
Supporters of Comrade Ridwan Ahmed, another candidate in the presidential race, also claimed victory and demanded that the electoral commission declare their candidate as the rightful winner. The protest created tension on campus, prompting the deployment of security forces.
As of now, the electoral commission has yet to officially announce the result of the election, leaving the situation unresolved.
