NWUK Seeks Housing Partnership with Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development

As part of ongoing efforts to improve staff welfare and strengthen strategic partnerships, the Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano (NWUK), Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, led a delegation from the University on a courtesy visit to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, where they met with the Honourable Minister of State, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, in his office in Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero explained that the purpose of the engagement was to pay homage to the Minister and explore possible areas of collaboration between the University and the Ministry, particularly in the area of staff housing and welfare.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that Northwest University Kano has witnessed significant growth in recent years, resulting in an increasing demand for decent and affordable housing among members of staff.

She emphasized that the University was seeking the Ministry’s intervention and support in facilitating access to housing opportunities for its workforce.

“Northwest University Kano has continued to expand, and many of our staff members are in need of housing. We deemed it necessary to pay this special visit to seek collaboration and partnership with the Ministry in addressing this important welfare issue. We understand that the Ministry has established procedures and mechanisms for housing delivery, and we are hopeful that through this engagement, assistance can be provided to help meet the housing needs of our staff,” she stated.

In his response, the Honourable Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, warmly welcomed the Vice-Chancellor and her entourage, describing Northwest University Kano as an institution that is well known to him.

He expressed the Ministry’s willingness to support the University and assured the delegation that efforts would be made to identify appropriate channels through which the housing needs of the institution’s staff could be addressed.

“Northwest University Kano is not new to me. We are ready to assist in any way possible. There are agencies that may be in a better position to facilitate such interventions, and we will engage with them to see how we can work together to make this dream a reality,” the Minister said.

Rt. Hon. Ata further assured the delegation that discussions would be initiated promptly with relevant stakeholders and agencies to explore practical solutions and develop a framework for future collaboration.

The visit forms part of a series of high-level engagements being undertaken by the leadership of Northwest University Kano to establish strategic partnerships with government institutions and organizations aimed at enhancing the University's development, improving staff welfare, and creating a more conducive environment for teaching, learning, and research.
