The Osun State College of Technology (OSCOTECH), Esa-Oke, recently celebrated a significant milestone with the commissioning of a N15 million solar-powered streetlight project. The initiative, led by the Esa-Oke Renewal Initiative in partnership with Cedrus Group Africa, marks a major step forward in the college’s drive for sustainable development and enhanced campus security.

During the commissioning ceremony, the Rector of OSCOTECH, Dr. Samson Adegoke, expressed his profound appreciation for the completion of the project. In his statement, Dr. Adegoke highlighted the importance of the college’s partnership with the local community, noting that this collaboration was beginning to yield tangible benefits.

“This solar lighting of the campus, which we are witnessing today, is just the beginning of many positive changes we have long anticipated from our host community. We hope to soon announce additional projects initiated by the community for the college,” Adegoke said.

He further emphasized the mutual benefits between the college and the Esa-Oke community, pointing out that the institution’s presence had significantly contributed to the town’s development since its establishment in 1992. Dr. Adegoke also called on the community and alumni to support the college by contributing to the construction of hostels, classrooms, and laboratories.

“Alumni can donate buildings for hostel blocks, classroom blocks, workshops, laboratories, and auditoria to complement the efforts of the State Government. Vehicles, computers, and laboratory equipment are also needed to enhance learning and practical experiences,” he added.

Mr. Olubusayo Adeniyi, CEO of Cedrus Group Africa, elaborated on the broader impact of the project, explaining that it was not only about lighting the paths but also a testament to the group’s commitment to sustainability, community development, and a brighter future.

“This project is more than just lighting our paths; it is a testament to our commitment to sustainability, community development, and a brighter future for all,” Adeniyi said. He added that the project aligns with Cedrus Group Africa’s environmental, social, and governance principles.

“By harnessing solar power, we are reducing the community’s reliance on fossil fuels, cutting carbon emissions, and contributing to a cleaner, greener environment. These lights will enhance safety and security for students and staff, allowing them to navigate the campus confidently after dark,” he noted.

The event was also graced by Osun State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Eluwole Adedipo, who praised the project’s positive impact on the institution.

“Education is light and life. Without education, we remain ignorant, and without light, there can be no education,” Adedipo stated. He urged the Rector and alumni to continue their efforts to elevate the college’s status, emphasizing that the government alone could not meet all the needs of the state’s educational institutions.

The successful completion of the solar-powered streetlight project is expected to serve as a model for future collaborations between OSCOTECH, the Esa-Oke community, and other stakeholders committed to the development of the college.
