During a working visit to the office of the Rector at The Polytechnic Ibadan, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, Director General of the Oyo State Agency for Youths, Sports, and Education Development (OYMASED), emphasized the need for youths to embrace positive values. Dr. Thomas expressed concern over the increasing restiveness among youths, which he believes has led to a neglect of essential values.

Dr. Thomas outlined the mission of OYMASED, highlighting the importance of instilling core values in students, who are the future leaders of tomorrow. He stressed that hard work and perseverance are being overshadowed by a desire for quick success, leading to the rise of negative behaviors such as cultism, thuggery, bullying, substance abuse, and indecent dressing.

“Bullying, thuggery, indecent dressing, illicit drugs/substance and other vices are now on the rise as youths prefer to get rich quickly instead of imbibing the spirit of tolerance, perseverance, and honesty,” Dr. Thomas stated.

He commended the workforce of The Polytechnic Ibadan for their quality of service and called for collective efforts to ensure that students exhibit good behavior in society.

In response, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, Rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan, praised the State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for establishing OYMASED. Dr. Lasisi expressed gratitude to the OYMASED team for their visit and assured them of the institution’s support in promoting positive values among students.

This visit underscores the commitment of both OYMASED and The Polytechnic Ibadan to fostering a generation of well-rounded and responsible youths.
