Patela Care Foundation Commemorates International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Patela Care Foundation, a non-governmental organization, marked the International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a special outreach on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Paediatric Oncology Wards of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Patela Care Foundation Commemorates International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Patela Care Foundation, a non-governmental organization, marked the International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a special outreach on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Paediatric Oncology Wards of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

The International Childhood Cancer Day, commemorated annually on February 15, is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness, promoting advocacy, improving health policies on childhood cancer, and honoring the courage of children and caregivers battling cancer. Since its inception, Patela Care Foundation has remained committed to this cause through awareness programs, advocacy walks, media campaigns, and by providing financial and psychosocial support to families.

In line with its tradition, the Foundation this year donated chemotherapy drugs, pharmaceutical items, and light refreshments to children receiving care at UCH’s Paediatric Oncology Wards.

The Patela Care Foundation team was warmly received by representatives of the hospital, including Dr. Fashina (representing the Head of Paediatrics, Prof. Brown), Head of Nursing Paediatrics, DDN Popoola, DDN Oki, members of the oncology team, and family caregivers. According to feedback, the initiative has significantly reduced the financial burden of cancer care for some families while improving their psychosocial wellbeing.

The Chief Medical Director of UCH, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, in his goodwill message, commended the Foundation for its consistent efforts in creating awareness and bringing joy to children undergoing cancer treatment. He also pledged the management’s continued support for the Foundation’s activities.

Patela Care Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting families dealing with cancer diagnosis through sustained awareness campaigns, financial aid, and psychosocial interventions.
