Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, on Monday, donated N20 million to St. Charles Borromeo College of Nursing and Midwifery, Onitsha, to support the institution's nursing and midwifery departments with N10 million each.

Speaking during the donation ceremony, Obi emphasized the critical role of education and healthcare in the nation's future, noting that investments in these sectors will pave the way for a better society. He highlighted that knowledge and health are essential "currencies" that will drive development and sustainability.

Addressing concerns about the exodus of nurses and other professionals seeking greener pastures abroad, Obi said there is nothing wrong with individuals choosing to travel overseas for better opportunities. He argued that with Nigeria's population exceeding 200 million, there is ample room to train more professionals, thus ensuring a steady supply of skilled workers both within and outside the country.

"I told the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to stop denying anybody from leaving Nigeria for greener pastures. We have 200 million people; let us educate them. Those who want to go abroad should be allowed, while those who prefer to stay can remain. Diaspora remittance is also a form of revenue generation," Obi said.
