Platoon 10 have emerged winners of the 2023 inter platoon football tournament at the NYSC, Osun Camp.

Myschoolnews reports the grand finale of the football competition for the 2023 Batch B Stream 2 Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, was marked by a spirited novelty match featuring female Corps Members chosen randomly from various platoons, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

 

The event was flagged up by the State Coordinator, Mr. Agbor Ndoma, and other camp officials, who exchanged handshakes with the football players representing Platoon 7 and Platoon 10, signaling the commencement of the football match. Precisely at 5pm, the game kicked off with both teams displaying remarkable energy and enthusiasm.

 

The early stages of the game were marked by aggressive play, with Platoon 10 asserting themselves with two goal attempts within the first two minutes. And in the 14th minute, the opening goal electrified the crowd as Platoon 10's number 12 player, Obeten Israel, bearing the state code LA/23B/7420, delivered a resounding volley that ricocheted off the bar and gave his platoon an early lead.

 

And following a brief five-minute halftime break, both teams returned to the pitch, this time switching sides for the second half. Platoon 7 continued their relentless pursuit of an equalizer, but they were thwarted repeatedly by the exceptional performance of Platoon 10's goalkeeper. And the game ended in favor of Platoon 10 with one goal to nil, crowning them as the champions of the NYSC Batch B Stream 2 Football Competition. While Platoon 7 and Platoon 1 secured second and third place, respectively.

 

The excitement continued as gifts were presented to the victorious platoons, celebrating their achievements in the 2023 NYSC Batch B Stream 2 Sports Competitions. In the volleyball competition, Platoon 2 clinched the first position, Platoon 3 came second and Platoon 8 secured the 3rd position. 

 

The female athletic category saw Platoon 3, Platoon 10, and Platoon 4 emerging as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, while in the male athletic category, Platoon 9, 2, and 4 clinched the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions, respectively.

 

Furthermore, special awards were given to the Best Volleyball Player and the Best Footballer for their outstanding contributions to their respective teams. 

 

Addressing OBS reporters after the sporting grand finale at the NYSC Orientation Camp's football pitch, the Head of Sports, Mrs. Mary Adebesin, expressed her satisfaction with the event, stating that “there were no major injuries to athletes across the competitions." 

 

She commended all platoons for their remarkable efforts in participating in the various competitions. This, to her, highlights the importance of sporting activities for Corps Members, promoting physical fitness, team work, unity and spirit of sportsmanship among the members. 

 

The event witnessed the presence of principal Camp officials, including the State Coordinator, Mr. Agbor Ndoma; the Camp Director, Mr. Aleshinloye Adeniyi; the Head of Sports, Mary Adebesin; Camp Commandant, Major John Itudo; Resident Officer 1, Mrs. Atta Esther James, and other Heads of Assignments.
