Federal University of Health Sciences Azare Policy on Lecturer Recruitment Sparks Debate
The Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA), Bauchi State, has implemented a policy barring graduates of Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry from applying for lecturer positions to teach medical students.
The decision has generated controversy, with some individuals expressing outrage and labeling the medical community as "self-centered." However, others, like Medic Rufyan Abubakar Adamu, have come out in support of the policy, arguing that it prioritizes clinical knowledge and expertise for medical students.
According to Adamu, medical doctors with specialized training in Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry are better equipped to explain clinical cases and provide corrections, making them ideal lecturers for medical students.
FUHSA has not publicly stated its reasons for implementing the policy, but Adamu believes it is essential to consider the university's priorities rather than viewing the decision as a job threat to certain individuals.
The debate highlights the importance of specialized knowledge and expertise in medical education, sparking a broader conversation about the qualifications and training required for effective medical instruction.
