Police Commissioner Visits Family of Slain Kwara Polytechnic Student, Pledges Justice

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, visited the family of Quoyum Ishola, a Kwara State Polytechnic student who was fatally shot by police officers during a stop-and-search operation. The visit, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, was to offer condolences and reassure the family that justice will be served.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, on Tuesday, visited the family of Quoyum Ishola, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, who was fatally shot by police officers during a stop-and-search operation last Wednesday. The visit took place at the family’s residence in Alagbon, Oke Andi, Ilorin, the state capital.

The Commissioner led a police delegation to offer condolences on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun. According to a statement issued by the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the IGP has ordered the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) to take over the investigation. All officers involved in the incident have been transferred to ensure a thorough and impartial inquiry.

During the visit, CP Olaiya expressed gratitude to the family for their cooperation during the investigation and reassured them that justice will be served.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Quoyum Ishola's father, Mr. Muselim Abdulyekeen, alongside his wife, Mrs. Ramat Abdulyekeen, expressed their appreciation for the police’s continued support. They also voiced their hope that the investigation would bring justice for their deceased son.

The family’s cleric, Alhaji Mohamed Kewugbemi, offered prayers for the deceased and commended the police for their dedication to ensuring justice. Alhaji Erolalujana, the family’s head, also expressed his appreciation for the police’s support during this difficult period.

The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Abdul-Jimoh Mohammed, accompanied the police team to show solidarity with the bereaved family.

The tragic incident occurred last Wednesday when Quoyum Ishola, an ND 2 student of Electrical Electronics Engineering at Kwara State Polytechnic, was allegedly shot and killed by police officers during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Fate area of Ilorin.

The Kwara State Police Command has pledged its commitment to ensuring transparency and justice in the investigation.
