The Polytechnic, Ibadan (TPI) showcased exceptional prowess at the Research for Impact Creative Writing Award organized by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) in Abuja, clinching two out of the three awards presented at the esteemed research programme.

A five-member team comprised of lecturers from various departments at The Polytechnic, Ibadan emerged as the top performers at the event, surpassing participants from four other renowned institutions including the University of Abuja, University of Delta (Delta State), Federal University Owerri, and Federal Polytechnic Kaura-Namoda.

Dr. Kola Lawal, the head of the newly established Department of Tourism and Hospitality at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, led the victorious team and presented the awards to Prof. Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi, the Rector of TPI. Dr. Lawal highlighted that the research programme, spanning two weeks, aimed to harness research activities in various institutions across the country for commercial utilization.

The team's research focused on addressing the pervasive issue of insecurity in Nigeria through the development of a travel guide prototype. Dr. Lawal emphasized the potential of their research work to offer innovative solutions to national security challenges, particularly through securing patents for research conducted in tertiary institutions, ultimately for commercial purposes.

Each participating team was tasked with forming innovative groups within their respective institutions, involving both students and staff in the research process. The TPI team's dedication and ingenuity in tackling complex issues such as insecurity garnered commendation from Prof. Adebiyi, who lauded their achievement and pledged to establish an innovative and creative unit within the Office of the Rector to foster and promote creativity and innovation throughout the institution.
