Prof. Uba Seeks National Assembly, Stakeholders' Support on Security and Funding for FUHSO

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Prof. Francis Aba Uba, has appealed to the House of Representatives Committee on University Education, the National Assembly, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen security around the university and its host communities.

Prof. Uba made the appeal during a budget defence session with the House Committee on University Education, chaired by Hon. Abubakar Hassan Fulata.

While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies, the Vice-Chancellor expressed concern over recurring attacks in neighbouring communities, warning that the situation continues to pose a threat to the safety of the university environment.

He cited reported security incidents that occurred on July 12, 14, and 16, 2026, stressing the need for proactive measures to prevent further attacks and ensure a secure learning environment.

According to Prof. Uba, improved security would enhance the university's ability to attract investments, strategic partnerships, and highly skilled academic and non-academic personnel.

He also informed the committee that FUHSO is still operating from its temporary take-off site and appealed for increased government funding to accelerate the development of the institution's permanent campus.

Responding, the Chairman of the House Committee on University Education, Hon. Abubakar Hassan Fulata, assured the university that the committee would consider the issues raised and provide the necessary legislative support within its constitutional mandate. He also urged the university management to ensure prudent, transparent, and accountable use of available resources.

The committee further directed the university management to submit detailed reports on the implementation of its 2025 and 2026 budget allocations.

The engagement underscored the university's concerns over the impact of insecurity on its operations and highlighted its call for greater government support to improve security and fast-track infrastructure development.
