Prof. Yakaka Bilkisu Bukar Maina Emerges as North East’s First Female Professor of Energy & Environmental Development

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has extended his warmest congratulations to Professor Yakaka Bilkisu Bukar Maina, who has made history as the first female Professor of Energy and Environmental Development in Nigeria’s North East sub-region.

The promotion was officially ratified by the Senate of the University of Maiduguri, marking a significant achievement for both the institution and the Professor's home state of Yobe.

Beyond the classroom, Professor Yakaka serves as a consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). In this role, she supports international programmes centered on natural resource management, clean energy adoption, and sustainable livelihoods, further bridging the gap between academic theory and field application.

Governor Buni described the promotion as a "prestigious status" and urged the new Professor to remain dedicated to her career. He noted that her success serves as an inspiration to young women across the state and the North East, proving that academic excellence knows no gender boundaries.

The Governor prayed for Almighty Allah’s blessings upon her new rank and encouraged her to continue being a beacon of pride for Yobe State.
