Professor Juwon Tunde Arotiba Appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Ibadan

The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has approved the appointment of Professor Juwon Tunde Arotiba as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), effective Thursday, 14 August 2025.
He assumed duty following the retirement of the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Aderonke M. Baiyeroju, on Wednesday, 13 August 2025.
Born on 13 December 1957 at Mopa, Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Professor Arotiba attended ECWA Primary School, Enugbo, Ileteju Mopa (1965–1970), and ECWA Secondary School, Mopa (1971–1975). He proceeded to the School of Basic Studies, Kwara State College of Technology (now Kwara Polytechnic) for his Advanced Level Certificate moderated by the University of Cambridge (1975–1977).

He earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from the University of Ibadan in 1983 and later obtained a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics from the same institution in 2007. Professor Arotiba also holds the Fellowships of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (1992) and the West African College of Surgeons (1997) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, as well as the Fellowship of the International College of Dentistry (2013). In 2020, he was awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
He began his academic career in 1992 as Lecturer I in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has since contributed immensely to the training of dental surgeons and maxillofacial specialists, many of whom have become leading professionals in the field. He is currently an Honorary Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, and Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Ibadan.
Professor Arotiba’s research and clinical interests span Orofacial Oncology (tumours), Maxillofacial Reconstruction, and Dental Implantology. He has co-edited one book, contributed chapters to two others, and published over 100 scholarly articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals. His works have earned him a Google Scholar H-Index of 25 with over 2,500 citations.
He is a member of several professional associations, including the Nigerian Dental Association, Nigerian Medical Association, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, West African College of Surgeons, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Osseointegration and Dental Implantology Society, Nigerian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, African Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He also serves as Associate Editor for the African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Nigerian Dental Journal, Nigerian Journal of Postgraduate Medicine, and Nigerian Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

He is happily married to Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Oreoluwa Arotiba, and they are blessed with children and grandchildren.
