Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas Bows Out as Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano

Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, the 11th substantive Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), today, Monday, August 18, 2025, formally concluded his tenure, marking the end of a transformative era in the institution’s history.

With a career spanning more than three decades in academia, Professor Abbas is widely celebrated for his unwavering dedication to advancing education, research, and institutional excellence. Under his leadership, BUK recorded notable strides in academic development, infrastructural growth, and international collaborations

Before assuming office as Vice-Chancellor, he held several senior positions within the university, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and Director of the Development Office. He also served at the national level as Senior Special Assistant to the former Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i.
