Reps Ask JAMB to Extend UTME Registration by 2 Weeks

The House of Representatives has directed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to prolong the registration period for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by two weeks. This decision aims to facilitate the enrollment of more potential candidates for the examination.
The motion for this extension was presented by Hon. Hassan Shinkafi from Zamfara State during a plenary session on Thursday, and it was swiftly adopted.

Shinkafi highlighted that the initial UTME registration period, which began on January 15, ended on February 26, 2004. However, numerous families faced challenges in registering their children or wards within this timeframe due to the prevailing economic hardships in the country.
Expressing concern, Shinkafi emphasized that the online registration process posed difficulties for non-IT compliant candidates, hindering them from participating in the examination within the set deadline.
He argued, "Without an extension of the registration period, many candidates will be unable to register and partake in the exercise. This would result in limited coverage and participation in this year’s UTME Examination in Nigeria."
