Lagos State University Admits 12,873 Students from Over 50,000 Applicants

Lagos State University (LASU) has announced the admission of 12,873 new students out of a pool of over 50,000 applicants for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, made this disclosure during the institution’s matriculation ceremony held on February 28 at the main campus in Ojo, Lagos.

In her address to the newly admitted students, Prof. Olatunji-Bello emphasized the privilege they hold in gaining admission to LASU. She assured the students that the university places a high priority on their welfare.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello highlighted ongoing efforts to maintain a conducive and competitive learning environment, promising adequate security measures to ensure the safety of students on campus.

Represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Adenike Boyo, the Vice-Chancellor urged students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

She reiterated LASU’s commitment to providing a disciplined and focused atmosphere for learning, warning against vices such as cultism, examination malpractices, corruption, and hooliganism. Prof. Olatunji-Bello emphasized that disciplinary actions would be taken against those found guilty.

Encouraging students to prioritize their academic pursuits, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of attending lectures regularly, completing assignments, and avoiding deviant behavior.

Addressing the issue of Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV), Prof. Olatunji-Bello reiterated LASU’s zero-tolerance stance against such offenses. She highlighted the establishment of the Directorate of Response and Preventive of Sexual and Gender-based Violence, urging students to speak up if they face harassment or assault.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello underscored the university’s dedication to grooming globally relevant and competent students. She emphasized LASU’s student-centered approach, focusing on character development and the expectation that graduates would contribute meaningfully to global developmental discourses.
