Cosmopolitan University Collaborates with NiMet on AI-Driven Climate-Smart Solutions
As part of its commitment to advancing research, innovation, and sustainable development, Cosmopolitan University paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) on Monday, 6 July, to explore areas of collaboration in climate-smart technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The Vice-Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Prof. Carl Adams, led the University's delegation, which included the Pro-Chancellor and other senior management officials. They were warmly received by the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike.
During the meeting, Prof. Anosike emphasized the shared vision between NiMet and Cosmopolitan University in translating scientific research into practical solutions that improve lives. He highlighted the Agency's achievements in meteorological research and climate services and commended the University for embracing emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence to build climate-ready and climate-resilient communities.
In his remarks, Prof. Carl Adams reaffirmed the University's commitment to developing the next generation of indigenous AI scientists and innovators. He noted that Cosmopolitan University is investing in climate-smart solutions powered by satellite data, AI, and digital technologies to address challenges in agriculture, environmental sustainability, and national development.

Both institutions agreed to formalize their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The proposed partnership will focus on climate-smart and digital agriculture for smallholder farmers, aviation and meteorological research, staff exchange programmes, data analytics, AI applications, and leveraging meteorological information to improve livelihoods and strengthen climate resilience.
The visit marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between Cosmopolitan University and NiMet, bringing together academic excellence and scientific expertise to develop innovative, technology-driven solutions for Nigeria's climate and environmental challenges. Through this collaboration, both institutions aim to foster groundbreaking research, build local capacity in AI and climate science, and create lasting impact for communities across the country.
