Southern Delta University (SDU) has formally announced plans for its maiden Convocation Ceremony, setting Saturday, 28 February 2026, as the historic date for the institution’s first graduation exercise.
The ceremony will take place at the Events/Convocation Centre by 9:00 a.m. prompt, and all graduands are expected to be seated ahead of the commencement time.
In a detailed notice to prospective graduates, the university management outlined clear procedures for the collection and return of academic gowns, alongside strict compliance requirements.
Academic gowns will be available for collection from Departmental Officers at both the Main Campus and Orerokpe Campus from Monday, 23 February to Thursday, 26 February 2026. Graduands are required to return the gowns in good condition on or before Friday, 6 March 2026.

As part of the collection process, each graduand must deposit their original Statement of Result and submit a copy of a duly certified clearance form. Failure to meet these requirements will result in denial of gown collection.
The university has also instituted financial penalties for non-compliance. Late return of gowns will attract a fine of ₦4,000 per day, while failure to return the gown entirely will incur a ₦50,000 replacement charge.
Management emphasized that the guidelines are mandatory and urged all graduands to adhere strictly to the timelines and procedures to ensure a seamless and dignified maiden convocation ceremony.
The forthcoming event marks a significant milestone in the university’s history, symbolizing institutional growth and the formal transition of its first cohort of graduates into alumni status.
