Tension in Delta Community as Rusticated Students Clash with Police

A tense confrontation erupted on Wednesday, October 3, 2024, between rusticated students of Steel Secondary School in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area, and officers from the Delta State Police Command’s Ovwian Division, leaving local residents on edge.

The incident was triggered when the school administration requested police intervention to address the students’ alleged criminal behavior, which had been disrupting the school environment. In response, CSP Aliyu Shaba, the Divisional Police Officer of Ovwian Police Station, quickly dispatched officers to the scene to restore order.

However, tensions escalated as the students, frustrated over their rustication, perceived the police presence as an overreach of authority. This clash raised concerns among residents about the potential impact on the school community.
