The Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, was honoured with a Meritorious Award and served as a Special Guest Speaker at the 7th Official Inaugural Ceremony of the African Youth Development Parliament (AYDP).

The Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, was honoured with a Meritorious Award and served as a Special Guest Speaker at the 7th Official Inaugural Ceremony of the African Youth Development Parliament (AYDP).

The event took place on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the International Culture and Event Centre (The Dome), Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State.

The ceremony, themed “Growing from Protests to Participation in Politics: Shunning All Social Vices and Damages of Drug Abuse Among the Youths,” brought together influential personalities and youth leaders from across Africa to discuss the role of young people in nation-building and political participation.

In his welcome address, the newly elected 7th Speaker of the African Youth Development Parliament, Rt. Hon. Wealth Akerele, expressed his profound appreciation to Professor Otegbayo and the entire UCH management for honouring the invitation. He emphasized the critical role of youth engagement in shaping Africa’s future, noting that “youths are the leaders of tomorrow, and by working together as a team, we can build a stronger and more united nation.”

Delivering his keynote lecture titled “The Nigerian Youth and the Roadmap to Excellence,” Professor Otegbayo congratulated the newly inaugurated Speaker and commended the Parliament for its dedication to youth empowerment and social transformation.

He described Nigerian youths as the “heartbeat of the nation—full of energy, creativity, and boundless potential.” The CMD urged them to pursue excellence through discipline, integrity, resilience, and continuous learning, stressing that true greatness can only be achieved through hard work and positive values. “Excellence is not accidental,” he stated. “It is cultivated through self-development, focus, and a commitment to doing what is right.”

The event concluded with the presentation of the Meritorious Award to Professor Otegbayo in recognition of his outstanding contributions to youth development and national progress.
