UDUS Clarifies Acceptance of NABTEB Results for Admission, Confirmation

The Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has clarified that results issued by the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) are acceptable for admission and confirmation purposes in the university.

This was contained in a circular released from the Office of the Registrar, and Admissions Unit, and signed by Registrar, Mal. Ahmad, following concerns and reservations over the acceptance of NABTEB O’Level results.

According to the circular, the university management drew attention to the legal status of O’Level certificates issued by NABTEB, specifically the National Business Certificate (NBC) and the National Technical Certificate (NTC). The management affirmed that these certificates are legally recognised by the Federal Government of Nigeria and are equivalent to the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by WAEC and NECO. This recognition, the university noted, is backed by the NABTEB Act (Decree 70 of 1993).

The management further emphasised that there is no existing directive or circular from the Federal Ministry of Education that delists or limits the acceptance of NABTEB O’Level results for admission into tertiary institutions. On the contrary, the ministry continues to promote the national education system.

In addition, the circular highlighted that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) explicitly recognises NABTEB (NBC/NTC) as a valid O’Level qualification.

“NABTEB is listed in JAMB’s official brochure and registration platform for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities,” the circular stated.

Addressing concerns arising from a 2022 directive on the non-recognition of NABTEB Advanced Level (A-Level) for Direct Entry admissions, the university clarified that the directive does not apply to the standard NABTEB National Business and Technical Certificates used for UTME admissions and basic admission confirmation.

Consequently, the management reaffirmed and endorsed the acceptance of NABTEB results for admission and confirmation processes at UDUS, stating that the certificates meet all statutory requirements for entry into the institution.
