As part of the events marking the 77th Foundation Anniversary and 2025 Convocation ceremonies of the University of Ibadan (UI), the Department of Music captivated the university community with a series of outstanding performances during the 2025 Night of Music.

The event, held to celebrate UI’s enduring legacy of excellence and creativity, featured mesmerizing musical displays from both students and staff of the Department, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to nurturing academic excellence alongside artistic expression. He described music as one of the purest forms of the University’s excellence, emphasizing that the Night of Music has become a cherished tradition reflecting UI’s cultural and artistic vibrancy.

“Music embodies the beauty and depth of the University’s intellectual and creative spirit,” Professor Adebowale said. “This event reminds us of the vital role of the arts in fostering peace, unity, and social cohesion.”

He added that the programme was approved by Management to showcase the talent, discipline, and creativity nurtured within the Department of Music, while encouraging the audience to continue appreciating and supporting the arts.

The evening featured a rich variety of performances, including traditional songs and orchestral renditions by the UI Choir, classical performances by the Ibadan Philharmonic Society, a solo trumpet piece, and an impressive pop music presentation by the University’s brass and woodwind ensemble.

The event was graced by principal officers of the University, academic and non-academic staff, students, and music enthusiasts, all of whom commended the performers for their artistry and professionalism.
