The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has emphasized that the aspirations of young Nigerians must transcend geographical limitations in today’s interconnected world.

He made this assertion at the opening ceremony of the 2025 University of Ibadan Career Fair, organized in collaboration with First Bank Nigeria and Aradel Holdings.
Speaking on the theme of the Fair, “Tech, Talent and Tomorrow: Preparing Nigerian Youth for Global Opportunities,” Professor Adebowale described it as both a reflection of the present reality and a clarion call to action.
According to him, the Fair’s theme rests on a powerful tripod — Tech, Talent, and Tomorrow. He noted that technology is the great enabler, and the University is committed to embedding digital skills into its learning ecosystem to ensure that UI graduates are not just consumers of technology, but creators and innovators.
“Talent is the new raw material,” he added, stressing that Nigeria is blessed with brilliant, resilient young minds. He explained that UI’s educational approach combines foundational knowledge with critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability to prepare students to excel globally.
On the third element, Tomorrow, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the University’s goal is to build a forward-thinking curriculum and instill lifelong learning habits in its students.
“‘Tech, Talent and Tomorrow’ is not just a theme but a roadmap for the future of our youths,” Professor Adebowale said. “Our responsibility does not end at graduation — UI graduates must contribute to the revitalization of Nigeria’s economy and society.”
He urged students to take full advantage of the Career Fair by building strong personal brands, cultivating professional networks, and showcasing their achievements through compelling portfolios. He also appreciated the University’s industry partners for their continued collaboration, emphasizing that internship opportunities and participation in forums such as the Career Fair help align academic training with global workforce demands.

In her opening remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Professor Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose, SAN, stated that the Fair’s theme reflects the rapidly evolving global landscape driven by innovation. She reaffirmed that UI remains a citadel of excellence committed to producing graduates who can compete, lead, and inspire globally.
“The Fair empowers our students to become creators of knowledge, drivers of innovation, and champions of inclusive development,” she said.
The Guest Speaker, Dr. Gabriel Onagoruwa, Founding Partner at Parsons International Law Firm, noted that technology is no longer optional in the modern world. He advised participants to constantly upskill — developing digital literacy, communication, and teamwork abilities — to stay competitive.
He encouraged them to adopt a global mindset, adding, “Africa is not a frontier waiting to be discovered, but a core part of the global economy.”
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Mr. Olusegun Alebiosu, MD/CEO of First Bank Group, Mr. Akinsope Roberts described technology as the “great equalizer” that rewards creativity and courage. He cited fintech success stories such as Flutterwave and Paystack, which began with small teams and big dreams, as proof that innovation can overcome boundaries.
“Talent is the currency of tomorrow,” he stated. “It’s not just about what you know, but what you can learn, unlearn, and relearn. But talent without discipline is like a car without fuel.”
Earlier, the convener of the Fair, Professor Oluwatoyin A. Fashae, explained that the initiative began in 2018 as a partnership with First Bank to prepare students for life beyond the classroom and strengthen academia–industry collaboration. She said the success of previous editions has transformed the Career Fair into a thriving platform shaping the future of UI graduates.

The 2025 edition featured panel discussions, interactive sessions, and company exhibitions, providing students the opportunity to explore employment and internship opportunities with leading organizations.
