The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has officially unveiled a new range of value-added food products under the Directorate of University Farms (DUFARMS), achieving impressive sales during the launch event on March 4, 2026, at the DUFARMS AGROMAT.

The initiative represents a strategic shift from primary agricultural production to processing and value addition, aligning the University with global agribusiness trends and sustainable food systems development.
During the launch, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde praised DUFARMS for its innovation and commitment to quality. “DUFARMS has long been known for quality farm produce. Today, we are consolidating that reputation by adding value, enhancing shelf life, and meeting evolving consumer preferences,” he said, emphasizing the role of food preservation and local processing in boosting food security and reducing post-harvest losses. The product range also features traditional Nigerian staples, such as original elubọ iṣu and lẹbu, catering to both local and diaspora markets seeking authentic cuisine.
Ag. Director of DUFARMS, Dr. Emmanuel Bankole, explained that the expansion responds to growing consumer demand and the need to strengthen trust in locally processed foods. Newly introduced items include Certified Yellow Flour, professionally packaged melon seeds, Vitamin A–fortified yellow garri, water yam, fresh pineapples, and other farm-fresh produce. All products have undergone strict quality control and are clearly labelled to ensure safety, authenticity, and nutritional integrity.

The launch drew key stakeholders, including Dr. Wunmi Abimbola-Okuneye (Director, DITTECS), Prof. Kayode Bamgbose, Mr. Ayorinde Isaiah (President, FUNAAB Odeda-Farmers' Cooperative Multipurpose Society Ltd), and Mr. Olabode Orolu (Managing Director, Nourished Foods Ltd), among others.
The event also recorded robust sales, signalling strong market confidence in FUNAAB’s growing agribusiness model and value-added food offerings.
This development marks a significant milestone in the University’s commitment to transforming agricultural outputs into commercially viable, safe, and nutritious products for diverse markets.
