Borno Governor Launches N12.9bn Aeronautics Scholarship for 54 Students

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has approved a N12.9 billion scholarship scheme to sponsor 54 indigenes of the state for studies in aeronautics, engineering, and related professional certifications at Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has approved a N12.9 billion scholarship scheme to sponsor 54 indigenes of the state for studies in aeronautics, engineering, and related professional certifications at Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management.

The scholarship, announced during a brief ceremony at the Government House in Maiduguri, will cover basic pilot training and specialized programs including Aerospace Engineering (10 students), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (11), Mechatronics Engineering (11), Software Engineering (12), and Systems Engineering (10).

The Governor presented an initial N2.5 billion cheque to the institution to cover the first year’s tuition and associated costs, noting that the full five-year programme totals N12.9 billion. He also approved an immediate N500,000 financial support per student to facilitate resumption and cover incidental expenses.

Speaking to the beneficiaries, Zulum urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their studies, emphasizing the importance of becoming ambassadors for Borno State. He explained that the selection process was structured to ensure equity, with two students chosen from each of the state’s 27 Local Government Areas.

The State Commissioner for Education, Lawan Abba Wakilbe, added that the scholarship attracted strong interest across Borno, reflecting the growing demand for skilled professionals in aviation and technology.

This initiative is part of the state’s broader strategy to develop human capital in high-demand technical fields and enhance Borno’s competitiveness in the aeronautics and engineering sectors.
